THE K–LL AUGER SPECTRUM OF 79Au197

Abstract
The K–LL Auger spectrum of 79Au197 has been examined in a high-resolving-power beta-ray spectrometer adjusted for a linewidth of 0.1% in momentum. A source of 65-hour Hg197 was used. A six-line spectrum was observed consisting of the lines K–L1L1, K–L1L2, K–L1L3, K–L2L2, K–L2L3, and K–L3L3. The K–L1L3 line is noticeably wider than the others and the line may be interpreted as consisting of the two components 3P1 and 3P2. The energies of the lines are 51.78 ± 0.02, 52.42 ± 0.02, 54.20 ± 0.02, 52.95 ± 0.03, 54.81 ± 0.02, and 56.63 ± 0.02 keV respectively. The relative intensities found were, respectively, 1.00, 1.54 ± 0.11, 0.99 ± 0.09, 0.11 ± 0.03, 1.83 ± 0.13, and 0.75 ± 0.07. Neither the energies nor intensities are in complete agreement with the latest theoretical work.
