Abstract
In a recent advance in hypermobile flatfoot surgery, the Smith subtalar arthroereisis [STA] procedure, an endoprosthetic peg is used. This STA-peg procedure stabilizes the rearfoot in a biomechanically sound manner, results in few complications, and has a short disability period and predictable results. A 6-yr clinical study of 96 operated feet is reviewed. Preoperative symptomatology, surgical criteria and postoperative results are evaluated and discussed.
