Abstract
In accordance with the practice adopted at many other major dams constructed by the Bureau of Reclamation (USBE), United States Department of the Interior, and by other agencies, strain meters and other instruments were embedded in Shasta Dam, in California, during construction to give continued assurance of structural integrity and to furnish data leading to future refinements in design and analytical methods of stress analysis. Determination of stress from long-time strain measurements in concrete, which creeps under load, is an involved process, and the method of analysis is presented herein to aid in evaluating the stress observations. Keywords
