Abstract
Bimetallic assemblies of the general formula, [Ni(diamine)2]2- [Fe(CN)6]X (diamine = en, pn, 1,1-dmen (1,1-dimethylethylenediamine); X = CIO4 , BF4- or PF6-) have been prepared as anhydrides for the en compounds and di- or trihydrates for the pn and 1,1-dmen compounds. The X-ray crystallography for [Ni(pn)2]2[Fe(CN)6]CIO4.2H2O has proved a 2-D network of a square structure extended by Fe-CN-Ni linkages. All the compounds show a ferromagnetic spin-exchange interaction between the adjacent Fe(?I) and Ni(?) ions through cyanide bridge. The pn and 1,1-dmen compounds show a long-range magnetic ordering over the lattice (metamagnet). The en compounds probably have a network differing from the 2-D network of the pn and 1,1-dmen compounds and show no magnetic ordering over the lattice.
