Abstract
The collective magnetic excitations were studied in the pure quadrupolar phase of the compound Tm0.9Lu0.1Zn and analysed within a generalised susceptibility formalism. In spite of the dilution by lutetium, a 60% larger dispersion of the longitudinal mode is observed in comparison with the concentrated compound TmZn; this is a direct consequence of the quadrupolar ordering due to the presence of strong quadrupolar pair interactions in these cubic rare-earth systems. Keywords
