Capacitive Dilatometer for Measurement of Oscillatory Magnetostriction

Abstract
A new type of capacitive dilatometer for the measurement of the oscillatory magnetostriction associated with the de Haas-van Alphen effect has been developed. The control of sample orientation allows for the survey of the field angle dependence of oscillatory intensity in the magnetostriction as well as the cross-sectional area of the Fermi surface. The precise control of the gap between the electrodes in the capacitive dilatometer at low temperatures provides for the detection of the oscillatory magnetostriction at high resolution better than δl/l=10-8. Application of this capacitive dilatometer to aluminum is discussed.
