Abstract
The paper deals with the problem of determining the change in wave velocities in uni directional fiber reinforced composites due to applied or residual processing stresses. A simple averaging scheme is described to compute effective properties relating increments in average Lagrangian stresses and displacement gradients over a representative volume el ement due to small disturbances over the prestressed state. Computed wave velocities are compared with test data obtained during temperature cycling reported in literature. Keywords
