Environmental effects on the reversal of spins 1/2 in big-molecules : an example of a non-adiabatic Landau-Zener model
Abstract
Low spin magnetic molecules are characterized by small energy barriers against spin rotation and relatively large tunnel splittings. Time resolved magnetization measurements have been performed on a spin 1/2 molecular complex, so called V$_{15}$. Despite the absence of a barrier, magnetic hysteresis is observed over a timescale of several seconds. A detailed analysis in terms of a non-adiabatic Landau-Zener model is given, in which fluctuations and tunnel splittings are of same energy. The spin-phonon coupling (with bottleneck) leads to long relaxation times and to a particular "butterfly" hysteresis loop. Keywords
