Microscopic Approach to Shock Waves in Crystal Solids. I

Abstract
Shock wave phenomena in one-dimensional crystal lattices at finite temperatures are analyzed theoretically from a microscopic point of view. The basic equations are derived from nonequilibrium statistical mechanics. By using the linearized basic equations, responses of crystal lattices to external impulses are first analyzed by adopting the continuum approximation. Their numerical analysis is also made exactly within the linear theory. Secondly, shock waves in crystal lattices excited by continuous external forces are analyzed in a similar way. Mechanical and thermal effects in shock wave phenomena are discussed in detail.
