Abstract
It is shown that an exact solution of the non-linear Boltzmann equation does not verify the variational principle for non-equilibrium steady states proposed by Evans and Baranyai (Phys. Rev. Lett., 67 (1991) 2597). Therefore, the principle does not provide a basis for the understanding of far-from-equilibrium steady states. Keywords
