Abstract
A series of measurements of scattering cross sections have been made for nearly monoenergetic beams of argon on epitaxial (111) films of silver. Quantitative determinations of the fraction of the incident flow that exits in each solid angle element are compared directly with Oman's calculations for exactly matched situations. Nominal incident energies of 1 and 2 eV were provided by a shock‐tube‐driven, high intensity molecular beam. The measurements were made both in and out of the plane of incidence, so that a stringent test of the calculations is possible. Agreement was unexpectedly good, further confirming the validity of the calculation method as indicated by earlier agreement with the data of Romney and Anderson as well as those of Miller and Subbarao. Keywords
