Abstract
The production, isolation and purification of fumonisins from 10 litre liquid cultures are described. Measurements of sucrose, fructose and glucose consumption, oxygen demand, dry weight increase, CO2, and fumonisin production were taken every 48 hours. The specific productivity of fumonisins was found to be similar to that reported for corn cultures but purification was much simpler, yielding an 89% recovery. The method developed for the purification of fumonisins from liquid culture was also applied to a corn culture, resulting in a 70.1% recovery. Keywords
