Abstract
The stories of pregnancy exemplify the strategic nature of family storytelling. In this essay, phenomenology is used as a research method to explore the nature and function of storytelling as a cultural strategy for the generation and reproduction of small‐group cultures. An eidetic analysis reveals the way stories of pregnancy organize communication and constitute “the family” as a small‐group culture.Keywords
