Abstract
The total fusion cross sections for the system + have been measured in the bombarding energy range 30-60 MeV by the detection of evaporation residues in a ionization-chamber surface-barrier detector telescope. Although the measured + fusion cross sections are similar to those in which a similar compound system is formed by heavy-ion () interaction, the ratio of the measured fusion cross section to the total reaction cross section is much smaller than that observed for other systems and is attributed to the structure of and the ease with which it breaks up into smaller fragments. This view is consistent with the anomalous + elastic scattering results.
