Turbulence effects on acoustic wave propagation over a smooth surface

Abstract
A rigorous, mathematical treatment describing refractive turbulence effects on the mean-square pressure p̄2 of an isotropic acoustic source radiating above a smooth boundary is presented. The result is energy conserving, is general enough to allow the insertion of an arbitrary refractive-index correlation function, and does not require the ad hoc introduction of arbitrary parameters. This result is compared and contrasted with earlier work by other authors.
