Abstract
The Coulomb disintegration of the deuteron is treated by means of perturbation theory. The breakup cross section is determined in the electric-dipole approximation. Total cross sections have been calculated for deuteron laboratory energies below 25 MeV and for target nuclei in the range . The results of these calculations are compared with earlier theoretical estimates and recent experimental measurements.
