Abstract
The metabolism of dopamine (DA), norepinephrine (NE), epinephrine (E), and serotonin (5-HT) was determined in the brains of female turkeys before and after light stimulation, and during various phases of reproductive activity. Ten days of light stimulation increased oviduct weight 3.5 fold (P<0.05). This was associated with a significant elevation of both NE and E synthesis. However, such treatment was without significant changes in either DA or 5-HT metabolism. As female turkeys progressed from the laying phase of the reproductive cycle to broodiness, the ovarian and oviduct weights decreased progressively. DA synthesis was found to increase during gonadal regression, and 5-HT synthesis was elevated in birds with complete ovarian regression. Keywords
