Scottish village plans: A preliminary analysis

Abstract
First, a review of previous publications indicates the nature of research over the last fifty years. The second and third parts outline the major sources of information, such as estate papers, plans, newspapers and printed books, and the research techniques used in the study. The fourth and major section examines the plan characteristics of kirktowns, fishing settlements, planned villages, and other planned settlement forms.
