Abstract
The article presents a study that compares the decision making process of executives in Japanese and American multinational corporations regarding the selection of regional headquarters. According to the results of the study, international business enterprises based in the United States are most concerned with a city's supporting infrastructure, its political stability, the availability of air transportation, and the cost of compensating an expatriate staff. Japanese international business enterprises are most concerned with the area's supporting services, educational and medical facilities and the economic importance of the local market.
