Abstract
Calculations of inclusive cross sections for the production of bottom quarks in proton-proton and proton-antiproton collisions are presented as a function of energy, transverse momentum, rapidity, and pseudorapidity for values of ranging from 100 GeV to 40 TeV. The computations are based on next-to-leading-order matrix elements from perturbative quantum chromodynamics and on the most recently published sets of parton densities. Variations of the behavior of the gluon density in the region of very small provide an estimate of the range of theoretical uncertainty. At Superconducting Super Collider energies, results are presented for both the collider configuration TeV and the fixed-target option GeV. Included are calculations of charm-quark inclusive cross sections at GeV and 1.8 TeV.
