Applications of Mass Spectrometry to Synthetic Polymers

Abstract
Mass spectrometry has earned its rightful place as one of the three principal spectroscopic methods (along with magnetic resonance and infrared) for the analysis of polymeric materials. It is clear that a large and efficient arsenal of mass spectrometric techniques has been developed to examine these complex and intractable materials. Improved pyrolysis methods, soft ionization modes, higher mass analyzers/detectors, and sophisticated chemometric treatment of the spectral data appear to be the main lines of future development.
