Abstract
Although the New England Journal of Medicine is owned, published, and copyrighted by the Massachusetts Medical Society, the editorial by its executive editor, Dr. Marcia Angell, “How Much Will Health Care Reform Cost”1? should dispel doubts, if any exist, that the Journal has editorial independence from the Society.The Society agrees that the continuing escalation in health care expenditures is stifling and unsustainable. Although some of our members may disagree, the Society officially supports Health Access America, the plan proposed by the American Medical Association for health-system reform2.
