The Damping of the NaD Lines in the Solar Spectrum by Atomic Hydrogen

Abstract
The paper gives a brief discussion of the nature of the damping processes in the atmospheres of cooler stars, followed by a calculation of the absorption in the wings of the Na D lines in the solar spectrum using damping constants recently calculated by Lewis, McNamara and Michels. The agreement between theory and observation is discussed critically.
