Abstract
The root-producing meristem of I. andicola (E. Amstutz) L. D. Gomez originates between the 1st and 2nd roots shortly after the production of the 2nd root, just as in other species of this genus. Additional roots are produced at the lower end of the corm. Eventually one or more ends of the basal root-producing meristem advance upward along the side of the stele, giving rise to the lateral root-producing meristem. The demonstration that the transition from basal to lateral root production occurs in the ontogeny of each individual strongly supports the combination of Stylites E. Amstutz with Isoetes L.This publication has 4 references indexed in Scilit:
