Parmelia reptans, a new lichen species producing the depsidone, succinprotocetraric acid

Abstract
The new lichen, Parmelia reptans, is described and shown to produce the depsidone, succinprotocetraric acid. This lichen acid has been characterized and identified as l'-carboxy-2',4-dihydroxy-6,6'-dimethyl-3-formyl-3'-succinoyloxymethyldepsidone. Succinprotocetraric acid has also been isolated from Chondropsis semiviridis and detected in several other lichen species by microchemical methods.
