Abstract
A simulated annealing program, HMCTAB, has been developed to optimize equation of state data tables for use in large physics simulation codes. A cost function dependent on table error and table size is defined and is used to accept or reject randomly chosen table grid configurations. An annealing schedule reduces the ‘‘temperature’’ parameter and drives the grid configuration toward the optimum. The result is a much smaller table with acceptable error. Keywords
