COMPETITIVE BINDING OF ATP AND ACRIDINE ORANGE BY MUSCLE

Abstract
Acridine orange and adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP) form complexes with the same muscle constituents. The formation of the ATP complex is an essential step in the energization of muscle. Acridine orange inhibits contraction, and this inhibition has the properties of a competitive absorption. Dye and ATP molecules compete for the same site.
