Abstract
Interrelationships in the citation patterns of twenty social work journal titles are assessed using network analysis techniques. The results of a hierarchical cluster analysis indicate a coreperipheral structure of the social work journal network. Blockmodeling is used to examine the linkages between clusters of journals. Striking in this analysis is the failure of American journals to involve the international literature in the publication network. The implications of these findings for the process of knowledge development in social work are discussed. The potential for network analysis in other areas of social work research is also described. Keywords
