Abstract
The homeostasis of iron transport and absorption represents a critical mechanism to maintain the necessary physiologic balance of this essential nutrient. Recent advances in our understanding of the molecular mechanisms involved in the transport of iron and its membrane translocation are reviewed. Translational and transcriptional control mechanisms that have been characterized to play a role in iron homeostasis are also discussed.Keywords
