KLINEFELTER'S SYNDROME: REPORT OF AN AUTOPSY, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO THE HISTOLOGY AND HISTOCHEMISTRY OF THE ENDOCRINE GLANDS*

Abstract
A 63-year-old man with Klinefelter''s syndrome, exhibited moderately eunuchoid habitus, large breasts, nodular goiter, and small testes. Urinary gonadotropin excretion was elevated and thyroid function tests were normal. At autopsy, the testes were composed chiefly of massed interstitial cells. Tubules were exceedingly rare and totally hyalinized; a few still contained Sertoli cells. There was a multinodular goiter weighing 160 g. The adrenals were not altered histochemically. The hypophysis was enlarged (0.80 g.). Basophils and acidophils were present in normal proportions. Sparsely granulated Schiff positive cells ("amphophils") and hypertrophic amphophils derived from them were significantly increased.
