Abstract
Fourteen copulations between 2 pairs of Cryptomys hottentotus were observed in a transparent plastic burrow. Females solicited from males which then mounted from the rear. Multiple intromissions lasted .apprx. 5 s each; sequences of 3 to 4 intromissions normally lasted 15 min, but one series of mounting was 55 min in duration. Copulations were effected in all areas of a simulated burrow system and during all hours that observations were made (8.00-20.00 h). The effect of a fossorial existence and different social systems on the manner of copulation is discussed. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
