Abstract
Following engorgement, glucose was the only circulating sugar in the hemolymph of Argas (Persicargas) persicus (Oken) and A. (P.) arboreus Kaiser, Hoogstraal & Kohls (♂, ♀, N2,N3.) (family Argasidae) and of Hyalomma (H.) dromedarii Koch and H. (H.) anatolicum excavatum Koch (♀) (family Ixodidae). Trehalose was absent. Body fluid glucose concentrations were higher in Hyalomma ticks than in rabbit host plasma but lower in Argas ticks than in pigeon host plasma. Argas coxal fluid glucose concentrations were much higher than those in Hyalomma pilocarpine-stimulated oral secretion, possibly indicating a difference in the efficiency of the 2 concentration systems or in specific requirements for this sugar. Keywords
