Abstract
Large-area (200 mm/sup 2/) avalanche photodiode arrays of bevelled design have been constructed and characterized for use in gamma and X-ray spectroscopy and light detection. The pixels exhibit gain as large as 2000, and have very low dark current (<10 nA). The electrical and optical characteristics of a nine-element array with 3*3 mm/sup 2/ pixels are presented. Resolution as low as 14.2% has been obtained for direct detection of /sup 55/Fe X-rays.Keywords
