Abstract
About seventy observations of periarteritis nodosa have been recorded in medical literature. The disease is still so obscure however that every new case reported may assist in its final elucidation. I shall discuss briefly a case observed in the Stanford Medical Service at the San Francisco Hospital. REPORT OF A CASE History. —I. G., a Persian janitor, aged 38, was admitted to the San Francisco Hospital on Dec. 12, 1922, complaining of severe pain in the stomach one or two hours after eating, without local tenderness, followed frequently by eructations of gas; also of occasional night sweats. These symptoms had commenced in July, 1922. One week after the onset of these symptoms his appendix had been removed, which gave him temporary relief. He remained at the hospital for about ten days.
