Electrochemical control of oxygen chemical potential for surface studies

Abstract
Electrochemical titration of oxygen through a solid state oxygen ionic conductor attached to a thin metal foil may allow the study of reversible oxygen chemisorption on the free surface of the metal. A holder has been designed to maintain an electrochemical cell for such titrations at a uniform temperature of 800°C or above in ultrahigh vacuum. Two independent heating units ensured the uniform temperature throughout the cell.
