Abstract
Personal reminiscences and historical background are given of fourteen deceased engineers and scientists who had been active in the field of hydraulics. They include John R. Freeman, Theodore Rehbock, Robert T. Knapp, Dmitri P. Riabouchinsky, Franz Eisner, Wilhelm Spannhake, Ludwig Prandtl, Richard von Mises, Lorenz G. Straub, Boris A. Bakhmeteff, Theodor von Karman, Serge Leliavsky, Pierre Danel, and Floyd A. Nagler. The recollections of the writer indicate the human features of these men and their achievements in the development of hydraulics.Keywords
