Abstract
A technique for specific optimal control of a dynamic process using a simple controller structure is presented. The constrained optimization problem is realized using influence functions, an unconstrained Fletcher—Powell minimization algorithm and a non-linear parameter-space transformation. The method is applied to a model of a batch fermentation process and it is shown that the resultant suboptimal behaviour compares very favourably with the reported optimal case. Keywords
