Use of light-emitting diodes as temperature sensors

Abstract
Gallium arsenide phosphide diode chips retrieved from ordinary red light‐emitting diodes (LEDs) can be used as inexpensive, reproducible, and durable temperature sensors over the range 4–300 K. Their low thermal mass results in response times, below 25 K, of considerably less than 1 msec.
