Abstract
A study of rare earth oxide phosphors activated by rare earths revealed that fluorescence occurs only in those matrices where the cation possesses no unpaired electrons. The fluorescent intensities of the rare earth activators were divided into three categories, strong, medium, and weak, each having a characteristic excitation spectrum. Keywords
