Abstract
G. flavum is native in Europe and throughout the Mediterranean region. In Britain it is almost exclusively maritime but occurs inland in Europe and rises to 2,000 m in Lebanon. It is naturalized in New Zealand and the U.S.A. Lists are given of typical habitats and associated spp. There is a marked preference for recently disturbed, well-drained ground such as shingle and sand beaches and cliffs, with a high soil pH, usually near 8. Seed production averages 4,800 [plus or minus] 398 seeds/plant, rising to 61,000 (maximum). Seeds require darkness for germination and the hard testa of ripe seed causes dormancy which can be broken only by prolonged gentle abrasion. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
