Glaucium Flavum Crantz

Abstract
G. flavum is native in Europe and throughout the Mediterranean region. In Britain it is almost exclusively maritime but occurs inland in Europe and rises to 2,000 m in Lebanon. It is naturalized in New Zealand and the U.S.A. Lists are given of typical habitats and associated spp. There is a marked preference for recently disturbed, well-drained ground such as shingle and sand beaches and cliffs, with a high soil pH, usually near 8. Seed production averages 4,800 [plus or minus] 398 seeds/plant, rising to 61,000 (maximum). Seeds require darkness for germination and the hard testa of ripe seed causes dormancy which can be broken only by prolonged gentle abrasion.
