Abstract
A hormonal imbalance is postulated as the cause for benign intracranial hypertension in pregnant women. The time of admission with respect to period of gestation coincides with the expected decline in adrenal corticoid levels and an expected increase in estrogen values in normal pregnancy. In addition, the brief duration of illness corresponds to the time when a 2nd rise in corti-coids occurs. It would appear that benign intracranial hypertension in pregnancy is a self-limiting disease; however, the judicious use of adrenal cortical hormones may be considered in the refractory case. Keywords
