Thermally stimulated currents in dielectrics

Abstract
The theory of thermally stimulated polarization currents (TSPC) is described and observation of TSPC due to the polarization of impurity-vacancy dipoles in alkali halides is reported. These TSPC results are compared with the well known ionic thermocurrents (ITC). A method is also described to distinguish between thermally stimulated currents which are due to dipole orientation and those due to the release of charge from localized states in the material. Analysis of these different types of thermally stimulated current is undertaken and values of trap depth and dipole parameters are obtained.
