Abstract
[long dash]The Debye-Scherrer powder patterns of pure porphyrin esters of known structure and configuration were recorded. A qualitative analysis of mixtures of porphyrin isomers was made. It is shown that the powder pattern affords a very sensitive criterion of purity. Powder patterns of methyl esters of porphyrins from various natural sources were compared with recorded reference patterns. The nature of the "Walden-strom" porphyrin present in urines from cases of acute porphyria is discussed in the light of the present findings.
