Abstract
Patterns of perithecium development and centrum organization in Microascus and Petriella are very similar, indicating a close relationship between these genera. However, the asci of Microascus are found at all levels throughout the centrum, while in Petriella, the young asci are peripheral, adjacent to the pseudo parenchyma of the peridium. This and other differences support the recognition of two distinct genera. Keywords
