Abstract
An optical method is described for determining the instrumental function associated with a Fabry-Perot etalon which forms part of a conventional pressure-scanned high resolution system. An ordinary discharge lamp (giving broad spectral lines) is used to illuminate the etalon, but the light is first passed through a second etalon at normal incidence. The characteristics of the second etalon are chosen so that the transmission maxima are narrow compared with the instrumental function of the etalon under test; if the latter is scanned, the resulting interferogram gives the required information. The application of the method to a particular case is described. Keywords
