Sequential repression and derepression of the enzymes for histidine biosynthesis in Salmonella typhimurium.

Abstract
The kinetics of derepression and repression of 5 of 10 enzymes for histidine biosynthesis in S. typhimurium, his E-ll were studied. The specific activities of these enzymes were measured during the period immediately preceding and following histidine depletion in the growth medium of this "leaky" mutant. The enzymes derepress in a temporal sequence that corresponds to the positional sequence of the genes in the histidine operon. Approximately 20 min. intervened between derepression of the first and last enzymes studied. When excess histidine was added to a derepressed culture, the sequence of repression of the 5 enzymes follow the same pattern.This publication has 11 references indexed in Scilit:
