Breaking the Precision Barrier for Aircraft Inertial Systems

Abstract
When mission requirements dictate long-term unaided inertial navigation with a low terminal position error, then the approach suggested in this paper can be used. The current aircraft precision barrier of 0.1 nm/hr long-term error rate can be reduced to 0.02 nm/hr by use of a constant readiness premission calibration, on board gravity deflection compensation and system modifications for finer accelerometer resolution and gyro speed control.
