Syphilis

Abstract
The recrudescence of syphilis noted in previous reviews1 is of paramount interest in this 26th annual survey of syphilis. This is evidenced by an avalanche of items in both lay and semi-medical press. For example: The Hydra's Back in Business (April 18, 1960, Medical Tribune); Venereal Ills Held a Big Problem Still (New York Times, January 24, 1960); V.D. Up (Time, February 29, 1960); Syphilis is Found on Rise in Nation (New York Times, February 24, 1960); Rising Vene-real Disease is Public Health Menace (The Evening Bulletin [Philadelphia] October 15, 1959). These notices, observed in a limited area, can be multiplied by the myriads of news media all over the country.
