Abstract
NOTHOPHACIDIUM, type N. abietinellum. (Phacidium abietinellum Dearn.), is described as a new genus of the Dermateaceae sensu Nannfeldt. The apothecia develop from a basal stroma in the foliage of Abies balsamea. and possess an excipulum of textura globulosa, with marginal hair-like structures. The asci are 8-spored, and inoperculate, and their pores do not blue in iodine. The ascospores are 1-celled, oval to broad-ellipsoid, hyaline to occasionally brown on aging. The systematic position of the organism, and its role in "snow-blight" are briefly discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
