Abstract
The response of a few liver enzymes, succinic dehydrogenase, alkaline phosphatase, GOT and GPT to variation in protein calorie ratio was studied in rats. Two such studies were carried out; in one, the protein intake was kept constant and the calorie intake varied and in the other, protein calories were kept constant and calorie intake varied. Concentration of GPT and GOT showed increases with decrease in total calorie intake. The change in GOT were more prominent than in GPT. The succinic dehydrogenases activity like transferases showed increase with decreased calorie intake, but the increase was not so pronounced as in the latter. The alkaline phosphatase activity showed no change with variation in calorie intake. Keywords
